Chapter 27 - THE DIVORCE PAPERS AGAINOn our third anniversary, Dorian gave me a box.

I stared at it suspiciously.
“If this is jewelry, I’m returning it.”
“It isn’t.”
Inside were our original divorce papers.
Torn.
Reassembled beneath glass.
I looked at him.
“You framed our divorce?”
“Technically, our unsuccessful divorce.”
“You are insane.”
“I thought it was symbolic.”
“It is deeply weird.”
“I can return it.”
I laughed so hard Elena came running.
Then I noticed the inscription beneath the frame.
THE DAY WE STOPPED PRETENDING SILENCE WAS PROTECTION.
My laughter disappeared.
Dorian looked nervous.
“I can still return it.”
I kissed him.
“Keep it.”
He smiled.
Then Elena pointed at the papers.
“What that?”
Dorian considered.
“Evidence your mother is very stubborn.”
I slapped his shoulder.
He corrected himself.
May you like
“Evidence your father was an idiot.”
“Better.”
