Chapter 15 - THE WRONG VILLAINFor the first time, I understood something terrifying.

Victor had not begun as the villain.

Thirty years earlier, he had helped my father collect evidence against Bellamy.

Then Vincent discovered Victor was Evelyn’s biological son.

Everything changed.

Victor wanted recognition.

Vincent offered him secrecy and money instead.

Resentment grew.

Bellamy discovered it.

And exploited him.

For years.

Victor eventually became corrupt on his own.

But Bellamy had helped shape the man who later destroyed our lives.

That did not excuse Victor.

It explained him.

Dorian hated explanations.

“They make monsters sound like victims.”

“Sometimes monsters were victims.”

“That doesn’t make their victims less dead.”

He was right.

So was I.

Both truths could exist.

Then Reed received a call.

Arthur Bellamy had disappeared.

His home was empty.

Passport gone.

Bank accounts untouched.

But someone had broken into his private office.

Nothing stolen except one file.

GABRIEL VOSS.

“He knows Gabriel is alive,” I said.

Reed nodded.

“And he’s afraid Gabriel can prove what happened.”

Dorian looked at the letter again.

“Then Gabriel sent this.”

I wasn’t sure.

Something bothered me.

The handwriting.

I had seen it before.

Not recently.

Years ago.

Christmas cards.

Birthday cards.

Recipes.

I drove to Evelyn’s condo.

Placed the letter in front of her.

Her face collapsed.

“You wrote it.”

She began crying.

“Yes.”

Dorian stared at his mother.

“You photographed Elena?”

“No.”

“Then who did?”

May you like

Evelyn whispered:

“Gabriel.”
