Chapter 18 - THE CLAUSEThe original trust contained one final condition.

Julian could inherit only after submitting a DNA test proving Victor Kane was his biological father.
Vincent had known.
He had designed the trust as a delayed confession.
Cruel.
Complicated.
Very Vincent.
Julian refused the money.
“I don’t want a dollar from either of them.”
Dorian nodded.
“Then don’t take it.”
“There’s four hundred eighty million dollars.”
“Yes.”
“You’re strangely calm.”
“It was never mine.”
Julian stared at him.
Years earlier, Dorian might have fought.
Now he simply asked:
“What do you want?”
Julian looked toward Elena playing on the carpet.
“I want it gone.”
So we expanded the foundation.
But the trust couldn’t transfer until paternity was legally established.
Victor would have to provide DNA.
He refused.
Then his attorney delivered a message.
Victor would cooperate under one condition.
He wanted thirty minutes alone with Julian.
Julian said no.
Then changed his mind.
Not for the money.
For an answer.
I watched through observation glass.
Victor sat opposite his son.
Julian’s first question was simple.
“Did you ever love me?”
Victor’s face changed.
“Yes.”
“Then why did you destroy everything around me?”
Victor looked down.
“Because I mistook being denied something for having it stolen from me.”
Julian swallowed.
Victor continued.
“I spent my life demanding repayment from people who never owed me what I wanted.”
For once, Victor Kane sounded honest.
Julian stood.
“I hope you live a very long time.”
Victor looked confused.
“So you have to live with knowing I became a better man without you.”
May you like
Then Julian walked out.
Victor provided the DNA.
