Chapter 20 - THE TRAP WITHOUT A GUNBellamy wanted Gabriel dead.

We wanted Bellamy alive.

So Gabriel became bait.

Publicly, his attorney announced Gabriel intended to testify before a federal grand jury.

Privately, he never left federal protection.

Bellamy reacted within forty-eight hours.

Not with assassins.

With lawyers.

A woman claiming to be Gabriel’s biological aunt filed an emergency petition alleging he was mentally incompetent.

Fake.

Then a news organization received medical records portraying Gabriel as schizophrenic.

Fake.

Then an anonymous witness claimed Gabriel confessed to murdering his parents himself.

Also fake.

Bellamy wasn’t trying to kill Gabriel.

He was trying to destroy his credibility.

It was smarter.

And much more dangerous.

But Bellamy made one mistake.

The forged medical records used an obsolete hospital template.

Dr. Mercer recognized it.

The template had been used at Lakeshore Medical Center until 2007.

One administrator had retained archive access.

Peter Bellamy.

Arthur’s son.

Reed obtained a warrant.

Peter cracked in six hours.

His father had been hiding in a private residence in Wisconsin.

Agents arrested Arthur Bellamy while he was eating breakfast.

No gunfight.

No chase.

Just cold eggs and federal handcuffs.

Dorian looked almost disappointed.

“You wanted helicopters?”

“No.”

May you like

“You wanted helicopters.”

“Maybe one.”
