Chapter 28 - THE BABY WHO RUINED A BOARD MEETINGGrace's water broke during a board meeting.

She looked down.

Then at Evelyn.

Then at James.

James went white.

Grace sighed.

“Well.”

James stood so quickly his chair fell backward.

“We're going.”

One director raised his hand.

“Should we adjourn?”

Grace stared at him.

“No, Harold. I'm going to deliver the baby beside the quarterly projections.”

Evelyn laughed.

James did not.

He was already calling the hospital, driver, doctor, security, and possibly the United Nations.

Grace took his phone.

“Stop.”

“But—”

“Baby.”

“Yes.”

“Hospital.”

“Yes.”

“You. Me.”

“Yes.”

“That's enough.”

Seven hours later, James Whitmore—who had negotiated billion-dollar deals without trembling—nearly fainted during delivery.

Grace saw his face.

“Don't you dare.”

“I’m fine.”

“You're green.”

“I am not.”

The nurse laughed.

Then a cry filled the room.

Everything stopped.

A tiny baby girl was placed against Grace's chest.

James stared.

Grace cried.

“Looks like you won.”

He couldn't answer.

Their daughter wrapped one impossibly small hand around his finger.

James broke completely.

Grace had never seen him cry like that.

She kissed his cheek.

“Hi, Daddy.”

James looked at her.

Then the baby.

Then Grace.

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“This.”

Grace smiled.

“We made her together.”

From outside the room came Chloe's voice.

“CAN I COME IN YET?”

Grace laughed.

May you like

Their peaceful moment lasted approximately eleven seconds.

Perfect.
