Chapter 20 - THE WEDDINGIt rained.

Of course it rained.
Grace laughed when she saw the sky.
James did not.
“We have contingency plans.”
“James.”
“Three indoor locations.”
“James.”
“Tents.”
“James.”
“Backup generators.”
She kissed him.
He stopped talking.
The ceremony moved inside Whitmore House.
Booth Nine was decorated with white flowers.
Chloe walked first.
She carried the rings.
Daniel walked Grace halfway down the aisle.
Then stopped.
Grace looked at him.
Daniel's eyes were wet.
“I think this part is yours.”
Grace hugged him.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For becoming someone Chloe can be proud of again.”
Daniel cried.
Grace cried.
Half the room cried.
Then Grace walked the remaining distance alone.
James understood immediately.
She wasn't being given away.
She was choosing.
When she reached him, he whispered,
“You're beautiful.”
“You saw the dress already.”
“Still true.”
Their vows were simple.
James promised partnership.
Grace promised honesty.
Chloe had demanded her own vow.
When the officiant finished, she stepped between them.
“James?”
“Yes?”
“Do you promise to love Mommy even when she's bossy?”
Grace gasped.
James answered immediately.
“Yes.”
“Mommy?”
Grace narrowed her eyes.
“Do you promise to love James even when he's weird about money?”
The room erupted.
Grace laughed.
“Yes.”
Chloe nodded.
“Okay. You can kiss.”
They did.
Everyone applauded.
Chloe shouted,
“NOT THAT LONG!”
Grace laughed against James's mouth.
May you like
Their marriage began exactly as their relationship had.
With Chloe interrupting.
