Chapter 22 - THE NEW ASSISTANTHer name was Sophia.

Twenty-eight.

Elegant.

Brilliant.

And extremely good at her job.

Grace hated her for approximately eleven minutes.

Not because Sophia did anything wrong.

Because Sophia understood James's schedule better than Grace did.

“Mr. Whitmore prefers calls after nine.”

Grace's eyebrow twitched.

“Does he?”

“He usually takes coffee black.”

“I know.”

“He dislikes morning meetings.”

“I know.”

“He—”

“I married him.”

Sophia froze.

Grace immediately felt ridiculous.

That night James came home.

Grace was quiet.

He noticed immediately.

“What happened?”

“Nothing.”

“Hamster?”

Grace glared.

James smiled.

“Sophia?”

Grace stared.

“How did you know?”

“Evelyn texted me.”

“I hate this company.”

James sat beside her.

“She said you interrogated Sophia about my coffee.”

“I did not interrogate her.”

“You asked why she knew how I take it.”

Grace folded her arms.

“She knew too quickly.”

James tried not to smile.

Failed.

Grace shoved him.

“Don't laugh!”

“I'm sorry.”

“You're enjoying this.”

“A little.”

She narrowed her eyes.

James kissed her nose.

Then her cheek.

Then her mouth.

“Sophia is excellent at her job.”

“I know.”

“And happily engaged.”

Grace blinked.

“To a woman named Rachel.”

Grace slowly sank into the couch.

James whispered,

May you like

“Hamster.”

Grace hit him with a cushion.
