Chapter 18 - THE DRESSGrace tried on her wedding dress alone.

Or intended to.

James accidentally saw her.

He stopped in the doorway.

Grace froze.

“You're not supposed to see this!”

James said nothing.

“James!”

Still nothing.

His eyes had gone suspiciously bright.

Grace's anger disappeared.

“Oh.”

James swallowed.

“I'll leave.”

“Wait.”

He stopped.

Grace looked at herself.

The dress was simple.

Ivory.

Soft sleeves.

No enormous train.

No princess fantasy.

Just Grace.

“Do I look okay?”

James stared at her.

“No.”

Her face fell.

He walked toward her.

“You look like every good thing I thought I'd already missed.”

Grace's eyes filled.

“That was disgustingly romantic.”

“I know.”

“You practiced it?”

“No.”

“Evelyn wrote it?”

James laughed.

“No.”

Grace touched his jacket.

“You're ruining my makeup.”

“You're not wearing any.”

“Exactly.”

He kissed her forehead.

Then Chloe entered.

Saw James.

Saw the dress.

Screamed.

“BAD LUCK!”

James actually flinched.

May you like

Chloe chased him from the room with a hairbrush.

Grace laughed until she cried.
