Chapter 16 - THE EX-GIRLFRIEND WHO DIDN'T EXISTGrace decided revenge was necessary.

James had teased her for three days about the bed.

So at breakfast she casually asked,

“Who is Rebecca?”

James looked up.

“What Rebecca?”

Grace sipped coffee.

“The Rebecca who called yesterday.”

James frowned.

“No Rebecca called.”

“Hmm.”

“What does hmm mean?”

“Nothing.”

“Grace.”

She shrugged.

“Beautiful voice.”

James stared.

Chloe looked between them.

“Is Mommy jealous?”

“No,” Grace said.

“Yes,” James said.

Grace kicked him beneath the table.

James smiled.

“There is no Rebecca.”

“That's exactly what someone with a Rebecca would say.”

James took out his phone.

“Would you like to inspect it?”

Grace immediately felt guilty.

“No.”

James put it down.

“Then trust me.”

“I do.”

His voice softened.

“I know.”

Grace smiled.

Then Chloe raised her hand.

“I know Rebecca.”

Both adults turned.

“What?”

“My teacher's hamster.”

Silence.

Grace slowly covered her face.

James laughed so hard he had to put down his coffee.

For the next month, whenever Grace became suspicious about anything, James asked:

“Is this another hamster situation?”

May you like

She hated him.

Lovingly.
