Chapter 21 - The Father Who Chose SilenceSalvatore Falcone lived quietly now in a lakeside house with one caretaker and no soldiers.

Lorenzo had not confronted him like this in years.

Vivian came because Lorenzo asked her to.

Salvatore listened without interruption.

When Lorenzo finished, the old man looked toward the water.

“Yes.”

One word.

Lorenzo’s fist tightened.

“You knew Vale framed my mother.”

“I knew the evidence was suspicious.”

“You knew Anthony was investigating him.”

“Yes.”

“And you did nothing.”

“I had a son to protect.”

Lorenzo laughed bitterly.

“You destroyed that son.”

Salvatore flinched.

“You taught me she abandoned me. You taught me love makes men weak. You turned my mother into a warning.”

“I was afraid.”

“So was I.”

Lorenzo’s voice cracked.

“And I nearly destroyed Vivian because I learned fear from you.”

Salvatore looked at Vivian.

“I am sorry.”

Vivian did not rescue him from the consequence.

“You should be.”

Salvatore then revealed something none of them expected.

Anthony Bellini had confronted him the week before his death.

Anthony demanded Salvatore expose Vale.

Salvatore refused.

They fought.

Anthony left furious.

Two days later, he died.

Then Salvatore opened an old safe.

Inside was a VHS tape.

The tape showed Giancarlo Vale meeting Carlo Falcone and a federal supervisor.

But a fourth man entered the room.

Matteo recognized him.

His face went white.

“That’s Judge Warren Pike.”

Pike was now chief judge of a federal district court.

Powerful.

Respected.

And currently overseeing several organized-crime asset cases.

Vivian understood.

“If Vale exposes Pike, Pike loses everything.”

Matteo nodded.

“And if Pike is still protecting Vale…”

Lorenzo finished.

“Then Vale isn’t running.”

“He’s preparing.”

That night, a federal warrant was issued.

Not for Vale.

For Vivian.

Charges: obstruction, evidence tampering, and conspiracy tied to Peter Caruso’s disappearance years earlier.

The past had just turned Vivian from witness into defendant.
