Chapter 14 - The Locker at Grand CentralThe locker contained no money.

No gun.

No ledger.

Only a small cassette recorder and three photographs.

The first showed Anthony Bellini with Salvatore Falcone.

The second showed Anthony holding a teenage Lorenzo outside a church after a funeral.

Lorenzo remembered the day.

His mother had died.

He remembered almost nothing else.

The third photograph changed everything.

Anthony stood beside Sofia.

Between them was a little boy.

On the back Sofia had written:

WE COULDN’T SAVE HIS MOTHER. WE WILL SAVE HIM.

Lorenzo sat down on the terminal bench.

“My mother?”

Vivian pressed play.

Sofia’s voice emerged through static.

She explained that Lorenzo’s mother, Isabella, had not died from an accidental overdose as the family claimed.

She had discovered Carlo and Vittorio DeLuca laundering money through charities connected to judges and federal officials.

Isabella planned to leave Salvatore and take Lorenzo.

She contacted Anthony Bellini for help.

Before he could move them, Isabella died.

Salvatore buried the scandal to prevent a war.

Anthony never forgave him.

From that moment, Anthony secretly watched Lorenzo.

Not because Lorenzo was a Falcone heir.

Because Isabella had made him promise.

Lorenzo’s hands shook.

“My father told me she was weak.”

Vivian reached for him.

“He told me she chose drugs over me.”

The cassette continued.

Years later, Anthony discovered the same network was preparing to eliminate Lorenzo before he inherited control.

Anthony collected evidence.

Carlo killed him first.

But there was one more revelation.

Sofia’s voice lowered.

Vivian, if you married Lorenzo, I need you to know I never wanted your life decided for you. The choice must remain yours. But if you choose him, understand this: he has been lied to about love since childhood. Do not mistake his wounds for permission to wound you.

Vivian began crying.

Lorenzo looked away.

Those words had predicted their marriage with brutal accuracy.

Then the recording ended with an address.

A small town in Vermont.

They drove north the next morning.

The address led to a cemetery.

Vivian’s hope collapsed.

A groundskeeper led them to a grave beneath a maple tree.

SOFIA BELLINI

The dates showed something impossible.

Her mother had lived twenty-one years after Vivian believed her dead.

Then Vivian noticed fresh flowers.

Placed that morning.

May you like

Lorenzo turned toward the road.

Someone had been there minutes before them.
