Julian survived.
But the attack changed everything.
Dante moved Evelyn into one of his safest estates.
She hated being protected.
“I don't need you.”
“I know.”
“Then why am I here?”
“Because I need you alive.”
She stared at him.
“Why?”
Dante stepped closer.
“Because I finally know who you are.”
Evelyn frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Julian entered the room.
He carried an old birth certificate.
“This belongs to you.”
Evelyn opened it.
Her mother's name appeared.
But the father's name wasn't Richard Sterling.
It was Alexander Moretti.
Dante froze.
“My grandfather?”
Julian nodded.
“Your mother had a secret relationship with Alexander Moretti before marrying Richard.”
Evelyn stared at him.
“You're saying…”
“You are a Moretti by blood.”
Dante looked at Evelyn.
She wasn't simply the daughter of the Sterling family.
She was connected to the Moretti dynasty.
That explained why her mother had been killed.
Why Richard had always treated Evelyn differently.
Why the mafia had watched her from the shadows.
Evelyn's voice trembled.
“Why would my father hide this?”
Julian answered:
“Because you are the rightful heir to something much bigger than the Sterling fortune.”
Before anyone could speak, Richard appeared on the television.
He had called a press conference.
“I regret to announce that my daughter Evelyn has betrayed the Sterling family.”
Evelyn stared at the screen.
Richard continued:
“She stole two hundred million dollars and conspired with the Morettis.”
Dante's eyes became ice.
