Chapter 5 - The Web Unravels

Within thirty seconds, the gala transformed into chaos. Lenders, partners, and high-net-worth investors were shouting over one another, demanding answers as the live financial monitors displayed the redlining balance sheets of Vance Enterprises.
Eleanor rushed to Julian's side, clutching his sleeve in hysterical denial. "Julian, tell them! Tell them she’s crazy! She’s a print shop clerk, she doesn't own anything!"
"Mother, shut up!" Julian hissed, violently shoving his phone against his ear. His CFO wasn't answering. The regional bank directors had already blocked his private line.
On stage, I turned to the podium once more. "For the past nine months, independent forensic analysts have tracked an intricate network of offshore accounts registered through dummy shell corporations in the Caribbean and Central Europe. These entities were designed to absorb Vance Enterprises' liquid assets while assigning fabricated debt to third parties."
A secondary document appeared on the primary screen—a high-resolution copy of the signature page bearing my forged authorization, alongside the originating IP address and digital notary logs.
"The IP address originates from a private server registered under the maiden name of your director of public relations," I said, pointing calmly toward Table One. "Miss Victoria Davis."
All eyes snapped toward Victoria. Her facade of polished confidence shattered completely. She dropped her clutch, spilling files and private devices onto the carpet.
"Julian, you said this was airtight!" Victoria shrieked, backing away from the table as journalists and camera crews surged forward, flashbulbs exploding in rapid succession. "You swore she wouldn't notice until the divorce was finalized!"
"Victoria, be quiet!" Julian roared, lunging to grab her arm, but she twisted violently out of his grip.
"Get off me! I’m not going to prison for your bankruptcy!" she screamed, abandoning him entirely as she pushed through the crowd toward the side exit, only to be stopped at the double doors by two federal agents in dark suits holding official warrants.
Julian stood stranded in the center of the ballroom, his family collapsing in tears behind him, his empire dissolving beneath the harsh glare of national media.
I stepped down from the podium and approached him. He looked shrunken, the tailored tuxedo hanging loose on his slumped shoulders.
"Why?" he croaked, his eyes wide and hollow. "Why hide this for eight years? Why let me believe..."
"Because I wanted to see who you were when you thought you had absolute power over me," I replied quietly. "And you showed me every single day."
Without another word, I walked past him toward the private exit, my security team parting the roaring crowd of press and financiers. But just as I reached the foyer, Arthur caught up to me, his phone pressed to his ear and his expression unexpectedly grave.
"Clara," he whispered urgently. "Victoria’s accounts... they weren't the only ones."

I stopped in my tracks. "What are you talking about?"
"The shell network wasn't created by Julian," Arthur said, lowering his voice. "He was just the conduit. The ultimate beneficiary on the parent entity isn't Victoria. It’s an offshore trust registered twenty years ago... by your late father."
