Chapter 5 - The Confession of a Monster

Dr. Vance jumped out of his leather executive chair, spilling hot coffee all over his pristine white coat.
"What is the meaning of this?!" he shouted, scrambling backward until he hit the floor-to-ceiling window.
Damian walked slowly into the office, exuding a terrifying, predatory calm that completely filled the room.
He didn't yell, and he didn't draw a weapon.
He simply locked the shattered door behind me and stared at the doctor with dead, soulless eyes.
"Hello, Arthur," Damian said softly, taking a seat on the edge of the doctor's expensive mahogany desk.
Dr. Vance's face drained of all color the moment he recognized the powerful mafia boss.
"Mr. Caruso," the doctor stammered, his hands shaking violently as he tried to compose himself.
"If this is about a donation to the hospital, you should have contacted my secretary."
Damian chuckled, a dark, humorless sound that sent shivers violently racing down my spine.
"I am not here to write a check, Arthur. I am here to discuss a delivery that occurred two years ago."
Dr. Vance swallowed hard, his eyes darting nervously toward the emergency panic button under his desk.
Damian reached down, casually ripping the panic button wire completely out of the wall.
"Two years ago, my wife died on your operating table," Damian continued, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper.
"You handed me a beautiful baby girl, and you swore to me that she was my biological daughter."
Dr. Vance nodded frantically, sweat beading on his pale, wrinkled forehead.
"Yes! And she is a miracle, Mr. Caruso! We did everything we could to save her!"
I stepped out from behind Damian's broad shoulders, refusing to hide in the shadows any longer.
"Then explain to me why that exact same child called me 'Mama' yesterday," I demanded, stepping into the light.
Dr. Vance gasped, physically recoiling as he recognized the poor, grieving waitress he had discarded two years ago.
"You," the doctor breathed, his knees completely giving out as he collapsed into his leather chair.
"We ran the DNA test, Arthur," Damian stated, pulling a suppressed handgun from his tailored jacket.
"We know you swapped the babies. We know my real daughter died, and you sold this woman's child to me."
Damian pressed the cold steel barrel of the gun directly against the doctor's sweating forehead.
"You have exactly ten seconds to tell me who paid you to do this, or I will paint this window with your brains."
Dr. Vance broke down instantly, sobbing hysterically and throwing his hands up in absolute defeat.
"It wasn't my idea! I swear to God, they forced me to do it!" the doctor cried pathetically.
"Who?" Damian roared, his terrifying composure finally cracking under the weight of his fury.
"Your stepbrother!" Dr. Vance shrieked, cowering away from the gun.
"Lorenzo Caruso paid me two million dollars to ensure you never had a legitimate blood heir!"
The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence.
Damian slowly lowered the gun, a look of profound, devastating betrayal crossing his handsome face.
