Chapter 23 - SAMUEL CREED MADE ONE LAST OFFERSamuel surrendered voluntarily.

That surprised everyone.

He walked into a federal building carrying two suitcases of records.

His attorney announced that he had evidence implicating Giovanni Moretti in decades of financial crimes.

Lorenzo watched the news coverage from Nora's kitchen.

“He wants immunity.”

Nora poured coffee.

“He wants relevance.”

Lucia entered.

“Both.”

Samuel offered prosecutors access to every Moretti structure he had created.

In exchange, reduced charges.

Then his lawyers contacted Lorenzo privately.

One final deal.

Samuel would return forty million dollars.

He would stop challenging Giovanni's trusts.

He would withdraw every civil claim.

In return—

Lorenzo would publicly state that Samuel had acted under Giovanni's instructions.

Nora read the proposal.

“He wants Giovanni blamed.”

“Yes.”

Lucia laughed.

“He really does hate being the villain.”

Giovanni typed:

“TAKE DEAL.”

Everyone stared.

Lorenzo said:

“No.”

Giovanni repeated it.

Samuel's money could restore the restitution fund.

Protect Nora's former center.

Compensate families.

Nora understood his logic.

“No.”

Giovanni looked at her.

“You don't get to buy restitution with another lie.”

Giovanni typed:

“PEOPLE NEED MONEY.”

“Yes.”

She sat beside him.

“But they also deserve the truth.”

Lucia nodded.

Lorenzo looked between the women and his father.

“You surrounded yourself with terrible influences.”

Giovanni almost smiled.

They rejected the offer.

Three days later Adrian published the full investigation.

Not an apology article.

A correction.

He described exactly how his original reporting had been manipulated.

He published Samuel’s healthcare holdings.

The phantom accounts.

The falsified Moretti signatures.

The anonymous complaint against Nora.

Everything.

Within forty-eight hours, three state attorneys general opened investigations into Creed Healthcare.

Families filed lawsuits.

Former nurses came forward.

One woman brought photographs of her mother’s untreated bedsores.

Another described begging for adequate staffing.

Samuel had believed Giovanni's criminal past was the ugliest thing in the room.

Then the families arrived.
