Chapter 8 - The Price of Loyalty

Rico returned to find the mansion in chaos. The back door of the library was splattered with blood, the panic room locked securely from within, and Clara gone.

When the panic room was opened, Leo ran out, tears streaming down his face. "Clara protected me! Bad men took her, Papa! Save Clara!"

Rico knelt, pulling his son into a fierce, protective embrace. "I will bring her home, Leo. I swear it on your mother’s soul."

Within thirty minutes, Dante dragged a beaten Marco into the basement cellar. It took Rico less than three minutes to extract the location: Falcone’s abandoned shipping warehouse at the edge of the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Falcone’s phone call came moments later, echoing over Rico's speakerphone. "Moretti. Your pretty nanny is in my hands. Hand over the shipping manifests for the Brooklyn terminals by midnight, or she feeds the Hudson fish."

Rico's voice was an unnatural, flat whisper that sent a chill through the entire room. "Emilio, listen carefully. If she has a single bruise on her skin, I will dismantle your entire bloodline down to the last cousin. I am coming."
