Chapter 14

Caroline stared at her father across the steel table, her mind calculating the staggering weight of the empire he was handing over. For years, Isabella had schemed, lied, and ultimately tried to murder her for this exact seat of power. And now, it was sliding effortlessly into Caroline's hands—not through violence, but through the collapse of her sister's house of cards.

"I don't want just the title, Dad," Caroline said, her voice cutting through the small room with absolute clarity. "I want a complete restructuring of the board. The executives who looked the other way while Isabella embezzled development funds to finance her lifestyle? They're gone. Starting tomorrow."

Richard nodded slowly, offering no resistance. He had lost all authority to fight. "Do whatever you see fit. I won't stand in your way. I'm retiring to the coast... if you'll still allow me to visit."

"We'll see," Caroline answered honestly. She wasn't ready to offer instant forgiveness, and Richard knew he hadn't earned it.

"What about Isabella?" Richard asked, his voice dropping to a trembling whisper. "Her defense attorney is pushing for a plea deal based on mental instability. They're trying to avoid maximum security."

A cold, razor-sharp smile touched the corner of Caroline’s mouth. "Let them try. Elias secured every encrypted server, every wiretapped phone call, and the financial records showing premeditation dating back six months. There is no mental breakdown defense for a calculated, cold-blooded execution plot. She’s going to a federal penitentiary for the rest of her natural life."
