Chapter 9 - THE TOTAL DOWNFALL

Eleanor Vance did not even spare Marcus a glance as she snapped her fingers. The federal agents immediately intercepted him, twisting his arms behind his back and snapping steel handcuffs around his wrists.

"Marcus Hayes, you are under arrest for wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit extortion," the lead agent read aloud, his voice echoing in the dead silence.

Eleanor turned her razor-sharp eyes onto Thatcher, who was still scrambling on the floor, disheveled and hyperventilating.

"As majority shareholder of the St. Regis properties and chairwoman of the Vance Group," Eleanor declared with icy disdain, "I personally authorized the surveillance warrants that documented your little domestic terror campaign. You picked the wrong family to cross, Mr. Cross."

Claudine realized the walls had closed in completely. The arrogance, the smug superiority, the predatory glamour evaporated in an instant. She dropped to her knees in front of me, grabbing the hem of my emerald gown, sobbing hysterically.

"Victoria! Please! I was manipulated!" she wailed, tears streaming through her makeup. "Thatcher threatened me! He said he would bankrupt me if I didn't help him! You and I were like sisters, Victoria! Please tell them to stop!"

Thatcher scrambled up, his eyes bloodshot with psychotic rage. "You lying snake! You planned the whole thing! You brought me the chemicals! You wanted Bloom for yourself!"

He lunged at Claudine, grabbing her hair and slamming her against a banquet table. Champagne flutes shattered, red wine spilled across the white linen like pools of blood, and the entire high-society assembly watched in horrified fascination as the two conspirators clawed and screamed at each other like rabid animals trapped in a corner.

The federal agents swarmed them, tackling Thatcher to the floor, pinning his face against the spilled wine and shattered glass, and securing his wrists behind his back. Claudine was yanked up, handcuffed, and dragged through the center aisle, her glittering gold gown stained and torn.

As Thatcher was hauled past me, his eyes locked onto mine. There was no charm left, no calculated manipulation—only the hollow, pathetic terror of a ruined man.

"Victoria... please..." he choked out. "I'm your husband..."

I took a slow, deliberate sip from my champagne glass, looked down at him with unadulterated contempt, and whispered: "Happy anniversary, Thatcher."

The flashes of fifty cameras immortalized his humiliation as he was shoved out the bronze doors and into the back of a waiting police cruiser.

Hannah stood beside me, watching the doors close. A single, quiet tear escaped her eye and rolled down her cheek—a silent tribute to her sister, whose stolen justice had finally been restored. She looked at me, her smile gentle and triumphant.

"It's over, Victoria."

"No," I replied, taking her hand and squeezing it tightly. "For us, it's just beginning."
