Chapter 1 - THE ANNIVERSARY BETRAYAL

“I'm stuck in Raleigh. Happy 3rd anniversary, babe.” But I was standing ten feet away, watching him kiss my business partner. Just as I moved to confront him, a stranger stopped me and whispered, “Stay calm — the real show's about to start.” And what happened next...
On our third wedding anniversary, my phone lit up with a text from my husband: “Raleigh traffic is brutal, sweetheart. Save me some dinner.”
I stood paralyzed behind a marble pillar in the hotel lobby. Less than fifteen feet away, Thatcher sat at the mahogany bar, tenderly stroking the jawline and kissing the lips of Claudine—my best friend and business partner! My knees buckled, a suffocating scream trapped inside my throat. Clutching my keys, I took a furious step forward, ready to shatter their little tableau.
Suddenly, a hand clamped down around my wrist like an iron vice.
It was Hannah, the hotel’s senior corporate events manager. She looked at me with chilling, deliberate calculation, whispering close to my ear: “Don't. Not here. Not like this.” “Let go of me!” I gasped, tears burning my eyes. “I’ve been watching them for twenty minutes,” Hannah held my wrist firmly, grounding me. “They come here once a week, take that exact corner seat, and always pay in cash. If you march over there right now, all you get is a pathetic scene. He’ll gaslight you, she’ll manufacture tears, and you will lose every tactical advantage you currently hold. Go home. Look at everything. Then call me.”
She pressed her embossed business card into my trembling palm.
I swallowed the bile, drove home in the dark, and tore through my husband's private office. In the bottom drawer, I unearthed a dossier titled Bloom Restructuring: a forged agreement dissolving our partnership to leave Claudine as sole owner, and an acquisition offer of $1.8 million for my company!

But it was the printed email thread that pushed me into the abyss: Claudine: “She’s getting more unstable every week. This is working flawlessly. How much longer?” Thatcher: “Six more weeks. If she misses two more major client touchpoints, I’ll legally trigger the competency review due to medical incapacitation. She gets nothing.” Claudine: “What about the morning routine?” Thatcher: “Still going. She genuinely thinks it's her baseline anxiety flaring up.”
The morning routine?! A wave of sick vertigo hit me. I sprinted to the kitchen, tore open the pantry, and stared in pure horror at the matte-black tin of loose-leaf herbal tea that my loving husband had religiously brewed for me every single morning for four months... My blood ran to ice!
