Chapter 10 - The Queen of the Syndicate

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the Moretti-Stone estate perched over the Pacific coastline was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a thousand crystal chandeliers. Music from a live symphony drifted through the salt-scented summer breeze as the most powerful figures on the continent gathered in black-tie attire.

There were no whispers of war tonight. No hidden weapons drawn in fear. The syndicate had entered an unprecedented era of peace and prosperity. The illegal rackets had been systematically dismantled and rebuilt into legitimate shipping empires, community foundations, and luxury developments that brought wealth to the entire state.

At the top of the grand marble staircase, the double doors opened.

The room fell completely silent.

Lazero Stone stood waiting at the foot of the stairs. He wore a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, his tattooed neck framed by crisp white linen, looking every bit the sovereign king of the underworld. But his eyes were fixed entirely on the woman descending toward him.

Callista Moretti was breathtaking.

She wore a custom bridal gown crafted from ivory silk satin, cut with the same regal elegance as the emerald dress that had silenced the room a year ago. It hugged her magnificent curves flawlessly, falling into a dramatic train that glided effortlessly down the marble steps. Around her throat hung the historic Moretti emerald pendant, glowing like sea-fire.

She wore no glasses. No cardigans. No disguises.

She walked with the undeniable grace of an empress who had fought her way out of hell and reclaimed her throne.

When she reached the bottom step, Lazero took her hand, raising her knuckles to his lips with gentle devotion.

"You look stunning, Miss Garrison," he whispered with a playful smirk.

"Don't start with me, Mr. Stone," she replied, her amber eyes sparkling with amusement and love. "Or I'll audit your offshore accounts again before the reception."

"You already have access to all of them, my queen," Lazero chuckled, pulling her close against his chest. "My ledgers, my empire, my life... it's all yours."

Don Corrado stepped forward onto the dais, holding the symbolic twin rings of the families. Before hundreds of witnesses, vows were spoken—not out of political convenience, but born from shared fire, survival, and unbreakable trust.

When Lazero placed the platinum ring on Callista's finger and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss, the applause that erupted through the ballroom was deafening.

Later that night, the two of them stood on the private terrace overlooking the moonlit ocean, glasses of vintage champagne in hand.

Callista leaned against Lazero’s shoulder, watching the silver waves break against the cliffside below.

"Three years ago, I thought my life would end with a bullet or an early grave," she said softly, reflecting on the long road that had brought her here.

Lazero wrapped his arm securely around her waist, kissing the crown of her head.

"And instead, you took the dinner invitation," he murmured with a smile. "Best executive decision I ever made."

Callista laughed, taking a sip of her champagne as she looked out over the quiet empire they had built together.

The clumsy secretary was gone forever. In her place stood a woman who would never hide in the shadows again—the undisputed Queen of the Syndicate.
