Chapter 9 - The Truth at the HearingThe courtroom was crowded when Dominic arrived.

Vincent sat beside his attorney, wearing a dark suit and the expression of a man who had already won.
He had brought medical reports, financial statements, and testimony from doctors who claimed Dominic was too emotionally unstable to manage his business.
Dominic's attorney challenged the evidence.
But Vincent remained confident.
Then Fay entered.
She carried a folder containing the DNA results, the hospital records, Elena's letter, and the recovered audio.
Vincent's smile vanished.
"What is she doing here?" he demanded.
Fay took the witness seat.
"My name is Fay Willis. I worked as a maid at the Corso estate because I needed money to pay my rent."
A few people in the courtroom shifted.
"I didn't know who Dominic Corso was. I didn't know anything about his family. I only knew that someone had spent six months trying to convince him he was worthless."
She looked directly at Vincent.
"Now I know why."
The judge reviewed the DNA report and hospital documents.
Vincent's attorney objected to the recording.
The judge ordered the audio examined for authenticity.
When the technician confirmed that the recovered file had not been fabricated, the recording was played.
Vincent's voice filled the courtroom.
"If Dominic dies, the company transfers to me."
A murmur spread through the gallery.
Then came the question about the girl.
And Vincent's answer.
"She stays where she is. Nobody tells her who she is."
Vincent stood abruptly.
"This proves nothing. That recording is incomplete."
Dominic looked at his brother.
"Then explain why you tried to take my daughter."
Vincent's face twisted.
"Because you never understood what Father built. He created an empire, and you inherited it simply because you were born first."
"You tried to kill me."
"I tried to stop you from destroying everything."
"You destroyed our family."
Vincent laughed bitterly.
"Our family was destroyed long before the accident."
For a moment, something genuine broke through his anger.
Then he pointed at Fay.
"Ask her what her mother did. Ask why Margaret Willis disappeared. Ask why she raised your daughter under another man's name."
Fay felt the room go silent.
Dominic turned toward her.
"Fay?"
She had no answer.
The judge ordered Vincent to remain in the courtroom while investigators reviewed the evidence. The guardianship petition was suspended, and the company was placed under temporary independent oversight.
But the legal victory felt incomplete.
Outside, Dominic waited beside the courthouse steps.
"I'm sorry," he said.
Fay looked at him.
"For what?"
"For bringing you into this."
"You didn't bring me into it. I was already part of it."
He nodded.
"I should have known."
"You couldn't have known."
They stood together in the cold air.
Then Fay took his hand.
"I'm not ready to call you Dad."
Dominic's face tightened, but he nodded.
"I understand."
"But I want to know you."
He looked at her as though she had offered him something more valuable than the company, the estate, or every dollar he had ever earned.
"I want that, too."
Carmine approached them with a new development.
The investigators had traced the recording to a storage account registered under Margaret Willis's name.
They had also found a second file.
It was a video recorded three days before Elena died.
In it, Elena sat in a hospital room, holding a baby.
She looked directly into the camera.
"If you're watching this," she said, "then Vincent has failed to keep the truth buried."
She paused, tears shining in her eyes.
"But there's something you still don't know about Fay."
The video ended before she could explain.
Dominic stared at the screen.
May you like
Fay felt her stomach tighten.
For the first time, she wondered whether discovering her father had only been the beginning of the truth.
